About the Job

GCDS (GiG Content Delivery Service) is a DISA implemented distributed computing platform comprised of globally deployed servers across both the classified and unclassified networks, which optimize the delivery of DoD content and applications. You will work closely with the other members of the Custom Government Engineering, Operations, and Professional Services groups to support planning, and improving of our existing product offerings.The ideal candidate will be an experienced, self-motivated, highly productive engineer who can handle multiple assignments at any given time. In this role, you will be expected to create, maintain, and improve Linux build tools and environment. This is a fast-paced environment, and a successful candidate must have strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to follow through on assigned tasks.

About the Team

The Custom Government Engineering team works with breadth and depth across Akamai’s technology stack to deliver custom solutions for our Public Sector customers. The team has a strong relationship with our Operations team; working in a collaborative fashion, we strive to build and operate world-class Application Delivery Networks for our customers.


* Become familiar with the Akamai content delivery technology stack and integrate it into the GCDS environment.
* Research, develop and implement new software products.
* Maintain and create Linux tools necessary to manager the platform.
* Act as a technical resource to assist in customer escalations.
* Work with other internal development teams to solve platform problems and design fixes.
* Maintain, enhance, and develop tools and testing frameworks.


Basic Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, relevant engineering field, or equivalent experience
* 2+ years experience in system administration or software development.
* 2+ years of experience in one or more scripting languages (shell, Perl, Python, etc.)
* 2+ years of hands-on experience working in Unix/Linux
* 2+ years of experience working with networking concepts and web technologies such as HTTP, DNS, TCP/IP.

Desired Qualifications

* Prior experience in a distributed computing environment.
* Experience with git, Perforce, and stash version control systems.
* Experience with Linux internals, Cloud, large-scale complex systems.
* Highly responsible, self-disciplined, self-managed, self-motivated.
* Flexibility to adapt and operationalize software from various sources.
* Passion to understand, learn, and dissect new technologies quickly on your own.
* Extensive experience working on multiple projects at a time in a fast-paced, results oriented setting.
* Meticulous attention to detail and excellent debugging / troubleshooting skills.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
