About the Job
Akamai's System Communications team is looking for a Metadata Services Architect to join the Metadata development team. This successful candidate will assist with establishment of metadata best practices in Platform including associated workflows and procedures, provide service support to the ecosystem of internal metadata users, and influence the evolution of metadata systems architectures from a metadata safety viewpoint.

About the Team
System Communications Metadata is a team of engineers who develop distributed systems that support Akamai's global network. These systems operate behind the scenes to provide the fault-tolerant and highly-scalable core of Akamai's configuration and health monitoring systems.


* Work with BU stakeholders, operations and customers of Platform Metadata Systems to understand their requirements and to translate these into actionable plans by the Metadata Application Services Team either directly or in collaboration with the broader metadata team
* Analyze current metadata ecosystems with a view to driving towards establishment and communication of metadata best practices intended to minimize metadata-related customer-facing incidents
* Collaborate with the Metadata Solutions architect to inform and direct the evolution of Akamai metadata solution architectures


Basic Qualifications
* Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent experience.
* Minimum of 5 years expertise of architecting large distributed computing systems (previous CDN experience is highly advantageous).

Desired Qualifications
* Demonstrated track record of working with large-scale distributed systems and achievement and accomplishment in an architect role.
* Demonstrated ability to present to senior executives, negotiate satisfactory engineering approaches among stakeholders who have interests in tension.
* Highly responsible, self-disciplined, self-managed, self-motivated, able to work with little or no supervision.
* Extensive experience working on multiple projects at a time in a fast paced, results oriented environment.
* Experience with API design
* Experience working with Internet protocols including TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS.
* Familiarity with SQL, Perl, Python and Linux shell scripts preferred but not required
