Armstrong World Industries (AWI) has a job opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineer in Marietta, PA. Reporting to the Plant Logistics and Manufacturing Engineering Manager, the Manufacturing Engineer will undertake and execute Lean Six Sigma process improvement projects, traditional Manufacturing Engineering projects, and studies of significant importance, scope and complexity for an assigned area of the plant. Projects the Manufacturing Engineer will take on include methods improvement studies, economic analyses, work measurement projects, area layout/space utilization projects, and capacity studies. The Manufacturing Engineer will be expected to utilize Lean techniques to drive process improvement in the areas of scrap reduction, productivity improvement, downtime reduction and changeover reduction, along with participating in formal cost improvement programs.


Key Responsibilities of the Manufacturing Engineer:

  • Employing work measurement, method studies and other Manufacturing Engineering techniques to analyze work methods
  • Developing and recommending improvements in methods and procedures to drive cost reduction and control, capacity increase, scrap reduction, and quality improvement
  • Developing and preparing estimates of anticipated savings
  • Leading cost reduction activities and analyses
  • Actively seeking out process improvement opportunities and applying process control and six sigma methodologies
  • Undertaking studies and projects related to new products or processes, product modifications, and modernization of existing processes
  • Developing estimated costs to manufacture special items requested by Marketing
  • Determining method of fabrication for special orders
  • Managing packaging and labeling applications and their design
  • Developing new and/or improving warehouse and material handling systems
  • Developing systems to ensure that specifications are up-to-date
  • Training operators and supervisors on new techniques
  • Providing advanced training to other members of the Marietta team in areas of expertise
  • Mentoring, coaching, and sharing specialized knowledge with others as needed
  • Developing and maintaining labor and expense cost standards and budgets
  • Analyzing new or revised hourly jobs and preparing job descriptions
  • Reviewing and explaining approved classifications with appropriate production personnel


Required Qualifications for the Manufacturing Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering or Operations Research
  • 3+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Hands-on experience utilizing root cause analysis, Lean manufacturing principles, error proofing, and other process improvement methodologies
  • Project management skills
  • Ability to effectively interact with both internal and external stakeholders


Desired Qualifications for the Manufacturing Engineer:

  • Lean Certified, Six Sigma Qualified, or a Green Belt
  • SAP Experience
  • Experience in a union environment
