The Director, Donor Relations provides leadership for the Donor Relations department in order to effectively manage the relationships of the donor and future donors with Babson College. Specifically responsible for developing, implementing, evaluating, executing, and enhancing Babson College's comprehensive Donor Relations program; advancing positive and mutually-rewarding relations between Babson, its donors, and potential donors; partnering with development staff to determine the best strategies for effective Donor Relations; managing recognition activities for donors; and collaborating with other departments to meet Donor Relations goals and objectives. The Director ensures comprehensive recognition and engagement of donors at all levels, and thrives in a fast-paced fundraising environment.

Essential Responsibilities

* Responsible for developing and implementing a strategic plan related to Development's Donor Relations with a focus on ensuring consistent and timely messaging, documentation, and effective use of technology.
* Creates and executes a comprehensive Donor Relations communication plan that effectively cultivates and engages donors and implements best practices across all areas.
* Oversees the development of impact and financial reports for donors based on the Donor Relations strategy. Manages all gift acknowledgments, prepares annual reports for endowed and restricted major gifts, manages annual and corporate Donor Relations, and regularly reviews and audits gift funds to ensure donor intent is fulfilled.
* Conceptualizes special recognition events and leads events such as Scholarship Luncheon and President's Society Receptions. Collaborates with Events Management Office to create positive experiences for donors, including preparing event plans, budgets, scripts, schedules, and collaborating with Communications to develop printed material, publicity, and messaging.
* Develops effective donor recognition strategies including yearlong, highly individualized projects.
* Develops and implements donor recognition standards for collateral materials and permanent plaques and signage. Maintains an inventory of all previously placed recognition material on campus.
* Oversees Donor Relations correspondence such as thank you notes, follow-up notes and invites to major donors on behalf of the College President and Senior Vice President, Advancement.
* Maintains inventory of named areas on campus and existing gift opportunities.
* Creates and maintains policies related to naming facilities, spaces, streets, etc.
* Responsible for the Donor Relations of all giving clubs.
* Supervises the Donor Relations team which includes mentoring and managing the staff, identifying areas of growth and professional development needed for each member to excel, and providing ongoing leadership, support and guidance to direct reports, including participating in regular face-to-face meetings, helping set and reviewing annual goals and objectives, identifying areas of opportunity for growth, including but not limited to formal professional development activities
* Works closely with Associate Directors to ensure effective and streamlined processes across functions linking database analytics, finance and gift administration, and donor management.
* Takes on other duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice President of Administration.
* Assumes additional responsibilities as required.

Minimum Experience

Education Requirements:
Minimum Level of Education Required Bachelor's Degree
Position Knowledge/Skills & Abilities Requirements:
* A minimum of 5-7+ years in donor or client relations, or other related field, with 5 years minimum managing staff.
* Must have proven ability to work with colleagues and customers in a collaborative and cooperative spirit.
* Must be a strategic and detailed planner who understands the role of advancement in a higher education environment.
* Demonstrated ability for writing for development, web, proofreading and editing skills, and design sensibility.
* Ability to envision and propose new methods to perform tasks that support ET&A; take thoughtful risks; and accept new and ongoing initiatives, objectives, and solutions to gain sought-after results.
* Must have an entrepreneurial approach to fundraising, combined with professional integrity and a commitment to the collaborative process.
* Ability to create an environment where direct reports have the freedom and security to take initiative; deal with complexities with resilience, resourcefulness, and optimism; and appreciate open mindedness, creativity, and agility in thought and tactics.
* Ability to embrace ideas and changes created by all community members.
* Ability to work independently to solve problems; look for opportunities to take on responsibility; take thoughtful risks; and effectively act on new and ongoing initiatives, objectives, and solutions to gain sought-after results.
* Ability to anticipate and effectively handle change; demonstrate willingness to try new skills and challenging tasks; and is flexible in changing conditions.
* Must have superior supervisory skills as well as project management skills
* Must have knowledge of fund accounting and scholarship administration and ability to work with and manipulate financial reports and data
* Ability to establish measurable goals and objectives and develop and implement strategies to achieve them
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team working on multiple projects simultaneously
* Ability to organize resources and establish priorities
* Must have strong computer skills including advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
* Must remain current with best practices and industry standards regarding Donor Relations
* Must have advanced verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups

Working Conditions:
May require occasional night and/or weekend work
