Parsons is now hiring an Cyber Security Specialist for our rapidly expanding  project located in Aiken.  
 
Parsons extensive experience in this field combined with your database knowledge will propel your career forward. We need our Specialists at this level to troubleshoot all database questions, issues and problems and independently resolve all issues.
 
In this role you will perform a variety of tasks necessary to maintain, upgrade and create assigned databases. You'll rely on experience and judgment to review, evaluate, design, implement, manage, and maintain assigned Parsons complex database(s) and to integrate databases on multiple platforms. Our specialists work with end users to assure assigned database systems continue to meet end user needs and perform to optimum capacity. Performs standard maintenance as well as more sophisticated programming and database support.
 
You will support end users in using Parsons' more complex database systems and provides individual training as necessary. In this role you will execute complex changes modifications and plans. 
 
Responsibilities:
 
  • Reviews, evaluates, designs, implements and maintains assigned complex Parsons database(s). Integrates systems through client/server database design and implementation. 
  • Identifies data sources, constructs data decomposition diagrams, provides data flow diagrams and documents the process.
  • Writes codes for database access, modifications and constructions including stored procedures.
  • Plans and configures the physical database environment.
  • Designs replication strategy and database backup and restore process.
  • Works with end users to develop database specifications, develops system architecture and is involved with the design and implementation of a new database or modifications to an existing database. May work in all phases of client/server database management, at a basic level.
  • Works independently to identify and execute complex maintenance and upgrade activities for assigned database systems.
  • Trains end users and updates databases and objects in response to evolving user needs.
  • Works with end users to identify the need for database modifications, upgrades, enhancements or changes and makes most database modifications and changes.
  • Handles complex maintenance and upgrades referred by more junior database administration staff.
  • Troubleshoots complex database questions, issues and problems, including connectivity, authentication and data quality.
  • Revises company definition of data as defined in data dictionary.
  • Develops a data model describing data elements and how they are used, following standard industry and Parsons procedures.
  • Maintains records of database usage, maintenance and other issues; generates statistics and creates reports based on database use and requirements.
  • Specifies levels of database access and assigns database access to authorized IT staff and end users.
  • Uses database management system manuals, industry standards and other information to processes and procedures for making changes to the database.
  • Creates workflow charts to define tasks the computer will perform, such as updating records.
  • Plans and schedules standard database maintenance and updates.
  • Tests programs or databases to assure they are working at optimum capacity, to correct errors and to make necessary modifications.
  • Coordinates and implements defined security measures.
  • Regularly reviews system performance; assures standard system modifications and upgrades are performed on time.
  • Schedules and supervises the installation, testing and implementation of  complex new products or improvements to the existing database systems.
  • Performs complex database maintenance and updates using knowledge of at least two database platforms and multiple script and programming languages.
  • Identifies modifications and upgrades required for existing databases and database administration systems and recommends them to appropriate managers and staff.  Implements the changes once they are approved.
  • Maintains a knowledge of vendor hardware and software. May interact with vendors to review product offerings and to recommend vendor systems.
  • Maintains a knowledge of industry trends in database systems
 
 
Qualifications:
  • 4-year degree in Computer Science (or related curriculum) preferred 
  • 5- 8 years experience.
  • Knowledge of and experience in programming SQL.
  • Non-Degreed database specialists must have at least 10 years of relevant work experience.
  • CISSP
Certifications:
  • Recommended:  Certified in the assigned primary database platform , such as Microsoft Certified Database Administrator
     
 
Skills:  
  • A thorough understanding of applicable project software applications and technology. 
  • An advanced knowledge of standard database concepts, practices, and procedures. Knowledge of new technologies and current industry direction.
  • Knowledge of at least two database platforms as well as knowledge of multiple script and programming language necessary to create basic tables, views, and stored procedures.
  • An excellent understanding of the Parsons database environment.
  • Proficiency in utilizing multiple programming languages (e.g., SQL,  Visual Basic, JAVA, etc.) for application development and database management in leading database platforms (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, etc.) .
  • Ability to work effectively and communicate with Parsons managers, team members and end users on technical and non-technical subjects.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Written and oral communication skills appropriate for the position, including the ability to speak very well in basic professional situations and present technical data in a logical manner that is easy to understand (may include communication via telephone, in person, or presenting to small groups). Ability to write moderately complex documents (may include emails, memos, procedures, presentations). Communicates with a wide variety of individuals (employees and managers) throughout the organization and outside of the organization (i.e. clients, vendors).
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Experience with data integration and the ability to act as architect for data integration projects.
