About Our Job

Community Recreationprovides child care licensed after-school programs in Denver Public Schools (DPS), recreation centers, and child care licensed programs. The Community Recreation team is part of the Training and Development committee and providestraining for up to 150 on-call employees every year.

The Community Recreation team is devoted to actively engaging Denver's youth through the facilitation of programming that promotes learning, health, and the development of important life skills in a fun and safe environment.Community Recreation Activities Leaderswill support and facilitate Community Recreation programming. These Leaders are devoted to enriching the community around them and are passionate about interacting positively with a diverse group of youth.Individual hours will vary between25-35 hours per week.

  • Supervises and facilitate all aspects of operations on site.
  • Ensure program standards including quality and safety of youth.
  • Effective communication with participants, parents, co-workers, school, and/or park personnel.
  • Displays professionalism in the workplace.
  • Planning program activities with your team resulting in weekly/bi-weekly calendars.
  • Update program rosters on a regular basis.
  • Maintains daily attendance records, distributes and collects evaluations as requested.
  • Adheres to all licensed child care regulations as determined by the State of Colorado.
  • Monitoring site budgets and ordering supplies in a timely manner.
  • Manage the online participant information tracking tool.

This pay range for this position is $14.27-$19.55 per hour. The target hiring rate for this position is $18.00 per hour.

This is an on-call position which will work no more than 39 hours per week and is not eligible for benefits. On-call positions may have routine or variable work schedules.

About You

We are looking for candidates with strong skills in organization, leadership, problem solving, oral/written communication, and working/planning with teams, and ensuring implementation and coordination of all activities. Experience with youth development and behavior management is expected and knowledge of child care licensing regulations is preferred.

Ourideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in instructing and/or facilitating the aforementioned Community Recreation programs and activities
  • Experience in leading a team of three (3) or more employees within a youth program or project
  • Minimum of 960 hours of experience working directly with youth
  • Some experience working with youth with disabilities.
  • Experience or trainingin behavior management and supervision of elementary and/or middle school youth
  • Experience in facilitating programming for and/or instructing youth, ages 5 - 16
  • Current CPR, First Aid, Universal Precautions, and/or Medication Administration Certification
  • Bilingual skills
  • Applicants should be willing to work holidays, weekends and evenings.

  • Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
  • Two (2) years of experience (paid or volunteer) as an instructor in an organized specialized recreation program
  • A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements
  • Requires certification in CPR/First Aid at the time of application or prior to completion of probation period.
  • Licensure and certification must be kept current as a condition of employment
